While waiting for a tech/service manual does anyone have any quick checks for an inoperable automatic retractable soft top?

well, did you pull the emergency motor disconnect?? It would be a small red tab under the rear driver seat. This would disconnect the BMW convertible motor.

Also, if your trunk wiring / switch is not working properly, it won't let you open the roof...

Also, if the windows are up and one of them is broken / not working, it won't work either.

You proable hit the target as my driver window moter is broken. I am waiting for delivery on a new motor.

Shoot - you probably don't need a new motor - just to replace the small plastic pieces ($10) in the regulators. There's a thread on this forum from about a month ago that explains this...
