Check Engine Light Followed by ASC Light At Idle Help!

Check Engine Light goes on Followed by ASC Light After 10 sec of Idle unless i keep reving till about 1500-2000RPM Help! I live in LA and Traffic Drives me nuts!! Please if you have any info please let me know.

ASC light sounds like a wheel sensor has gone bad. I had that problem; however, I didn't get a check engine light in conjuction with it. If they don't have to drill out the sensor bolt, it shouldn't cost you too much.

But ASC is located in the intake, and it only comes on after idle for about 10 sec, kind of like you stoped at the stop light and waiting, and if i keep the engine RPMs at 1500-2000 then it never comes on, so i dont think that the sensor is in the wheel, Basically the ASC sensor stops the air feed to the engine if the differential notices a slip or one wheel turning faster then the other. Maybe its Vacuum Leak, does anyone know?

The ASC system reads the ABS wheel speed sensors and actuates a butterfly in the intake so you are both right.

Does your problem only happen on cold starts or on warm starts too?

Your first step should be to pull the engine codes. Yours is OBD-I and I think the pedal process to get the codes is in the Tech Articles on Pelican.

Well the problem happens all the time when i'm in idle for more than 10 sec, unless i keep reving the engine meaning holding down the gas pedal so it stays beetween 1500-2000 rpm, and if i dont do that, then it will display check engine light followed by ASC light, and then i have to turn off and then turn the car back on so it will dissapear.
If i still need to reset or check my codes does anyone have a reset tool i can borrow, i'll pay. Thanks

Your local parts store should be able to read the codes for free. Call them.

Your local BMW CCA will also have a code reader. If you take it to a shop, find the website of the CCA and find out who their club sponsor shops are.
