97 328i stalling
Now that it is cold outside (30's) my engine stalls if it is not allowed to idle until the engine is fully warmed up (10 to 15 minutes).
The funny thing is that it idles fine while warming up. It's just that if I let it idle only for a couple of minutes then start down the road, when I depress the clutch, ease up on the gas and press the brake the engine dies. This continues until the engine is fully warmed up. The ICV was replaced as well as the throttle switch. The problem continued however. I have found that when driving the engine cold that if I limit sudden RPM falloff when the gas pedal is released by monitoring the tach and momentarily tapping the gas pedal when the RPM drops below 1000 that the engine will not stall and will return to idleing as it should. My OBDII scantool is not showing any codes being set (although I am not sure that any would be set under these conditions). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions/insight as to what might be happening and any additional troubleshooting that might be done to pinpoint the cause of this condition. Thanks |

I had the exact symptoms and my ICV fixed it. However I still have rough idle at cold start while the secondary air pump is running. I used a bottle of Techron and it cleared up for 2-3 tanks/weeks but it returned and another bottle of Techron did not have the same effect.
Check for vacuum leaks especially the hose from the ICV to the air intake tube.
