Angry starter bolts!!

I am doing my clutch (98 323ic) I have got all the tranny bolts off, I thought it would be easy from there until I tried to fingd the starter. The starter removal is driving me crazy!! anyone know how to access these bolts?? pictures would be even better! thanks

I took off my M3 tranny this weekend. The starter bolts could easily be mistaken for tranny bolts. They are E12 and high on the intake side of the tranny. Mine were threaded into the block so I didnt have a nut to hold on back side like Wayne mentioned in his article.

You can see the starter here at the top left:

You may have already removed them if you think you got all of the tranny bolts out.

you were right, the starter was threader, and I had removed the bolts. the only other problem I encountered some of the header bolts broke, I was able to bang out the stud, but just found out that the bolts cost 32$ a piece!!!

Yes they do!!! I was worried about breaking them.

I discovered that EVERY bolt needed to be hit with penetrating lubricant. The header bolts I coated the day before and then again an hour before. I tried removing my Guibo bolts with my impact wrench (200+ ft/lbs)and they wouldn't budge until I put lube on them. Same with the top left tranny bolt and all of the pressure plate bolts.

I read a recomendation somewhere to just buy stainless bolts at the hardware store to replace broken header flange bolts. I have no idea if this a good idea or not.
