Angry 92 318I clutch issues???

I need some help with my baby..........

Over the last month when I depress the clutch there is a awful scraping sound (think nails & chalkboard) it shifts fine and does not make the noise unless the clutch is engaged. And on occasion it will vibrate terribly while in various gears. If I baby it and slooooowly accelerate it does not happen. But when it does boy its like sitting in a massage chair. Again it is not a daily occurrence with the vibration but I am ready to put a for sale sign on her!!
I have already dropped 4 k in repairs last year and don't know how much more I can deal with!!

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

How old is your clutch?
I don't know all of the clutch symptoms but I would guess it is either the throwout bearing or the clutch itself. The pilot bearing would make noise all of the time.

When you say engaged I assume you mean the pedal is pushed to the floor. Not to nit-pick but this is actually when the clutch is disengaged.

Since you seem to have occasional vibration in gear I'm thinking clutch. i really doesn't matter no one would just replace the throwout bearing without replacing the whole clutch unless the clutch was very new.

A new clutch for your car is probably in hte $500 neighborhood installed, but I'm just guessing.

I just replaced my clutch twice in the last two weeks and it is a big job. Only one more replacement next week and I'm done. I hope.

If I was a guessing person I would say the throwout bearing is going or the pressure plate has lost a spring or finger. Either rate you will more than likely need a new clutch assy. This includes clutch disc, pressure plate. throwout bearing, pilot bearing and the piviot ball for the bearing rod. Since you have a dual mass flywheel Just hope it hasn't gotten burnt. If you need to replace it I would recomend a light allunium one. I love mine.
Don't let this upset you a clutch is a wear item like brakes or tires, they just wear out.

I'm curious why you recommend replacing the pivot pin. I looked at mine. It's plastic but it looks fine so I left it.

Aluminum flywheels are good but I would not recommend them to the average person. Those that want them know they want them and even they are sometimes disappointed once they get them installed.

I recomend the piviot pin because it is made of plastic, It cost $.48 and it takes about 30 seconds to replace. When this piece wears down it causes the clutch to get very hard to move. before the pedal gets stiff the hydrolics are getting a rather strong workout. It's a while you are in there type of thing.

I love my light flywheel and already have one sitting on the shelf for the 911. Next winter project. anytime I can remove rotational weight from my crank I like to do it.

Thats what I thought. Thanks.

The LTW flywheel WILL make the gears chatter, it causes more vibration and it is a bit harder to drive smoothly. None of those things bother me but they would bother the average person.
