E30 Head rest removal

How do you remove the head rests from a 89 E30 318i?
I have removed the rear seat panel and looked up inside the seat but cant figure out what is holding them into the plastic guides.
The procedure for removal is not covered in my Haynes manual.
Any advice would be great, as i'm pulling them apart to get them re trimmed.

THe is a small plastic tab on the plastic piece where the two "poles" slide in. Push the small tab and pull it out

I was quoted AUD$550 to retrim all the seats in this 318i in good cloth trim. Leather would easily be another AUD$250.
