Unhappy 1994 325i Dip stick removal

I have a 1994 325i automatic.

How do you remove the dipstick tube?

I am trying to change the oil pan gasket but I have been unable to remove the dipstick tube.

It seems loose and I can rotate it a 1/4 turn back and forth but I can not pull it from the top of the oil pan.

I have removed all bolts from the dip stick tube. So, I am starting to wonder if there is a bolt on the inside to the oil pan that holds the dip stick.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ok, it just pulls strait up. It just needed some convincing.

I ended up taking off the oil pan with the dip stick still attached. It sounds crazy but that's what I did because i was stuck and I needed to fix my car before Monday for work.

After I pulled the pan with the dip stick. I was able to pull it out while turning.

I don't know why it was so hard to pull out while the pan was still on the car.

Good luck to next person who has a stuck dip stick hope fully this will help them.

It's pretty tight. You don't want it to leak.

Congrats on finishing the job.

Dipstick removal 325i

Yes mine was hard to pull out too , I guess the o-ring swells and was also pretty hard to push in with a new o-ring . The metal ring on the dipstick tube about 100 mm from the tube's bottom end does a fair job of keeping dirt out from on top of the o-ring . Though I cleaned it all as well as I could before removing the tube some crud fell in the oil . I made a little cover from rubber sheet about 35mm X 45 mm that slides down the dipstick tube to shield it from future grime accumulation down in the pan hole. Also put the old o-ring snug above the metal ring on the tube to help fill the void in the upper , part of the pan hole .
