Tranny Mounts Problem
Hi Wayne
I ordered the E21 320i style mounts from you (23-71-1-175-424-M9) to replace the mounts on my 1995 318is. On trying to install them, I noticed that there was no "notch" on these (unlike the originals), so they would not sit flush against the tranny brace. Also, the bolts did not fit through either the tranny brace or the gearbox mounting points as they were too thick. There was no mention of these issues in your book (which I also recently bought), so I was wondering if I received (or ordered) the wrong parts. Your feedback would be appreciated. Regards Gus |

The 320i mount has a larger bolt, which you've already discovered, so the tranny brace must be drilled out to take the new mount. I would cut a notch in the mount to make it fit.

Mounts
And drill out the gearbox mounting point as well (in the actual gearbox)? No structural issue in doing that?
Sounds a bit ghetto - perhaps I should cut my losses and spring for the UUC mounts. |

(I moved the post above to this thread since it was an obvious response to my post above.)
I don't think you have to modify the tranny. I haven't installed those 320 mounts myself but the instructions I've seen only mention drilling the brace. Of course the instructions I've seen also dont mention that the 320 mount must be cut because it is missing the slot.

Hmm, this is news to me, perhaps they changed the design of the mount?
The 320s work well, but I haven't personally installed them in any of my cars - I've used the UUC mounts... -Wayne
