Having trouble closing my boot lid

hey guys,
i have a 318is and for some reason my car boot lid wont shut. i dont know why it wont and i have had a good look at it.. and it looks like the hook part doesnt latch onto the screw when you close it.. u usally hear a click.. but it just pops back up when i close it. anyone know the best way to fix it without goin to get it fixed at the mechanics

Check that the rubber seal hasn't come dislodged preventing it from closing fully. Then I would start looking at the latch and make sure it moves freely.

thanks for replying.. i have checked the seal and its fine.. the latch does not move freely.. its more of a clicking sound when i push it in... and i have to use alot of force to push it in

The first thing I would do is try to lube it. I'm not sure the best product for this but don't use WD-40. Maybe try regular silicone spray or try regular grease.

WD-40 isn't so bad - it's actually a cleaner more than a lubricant, so it can dissolve and clean out any gunk or debris in there. Then you can hit it with a better lubricant.

I use WD-40 all the time, and although it does tend to dry out, it's excellent for lubricating and cleaning out and general troubleshooting sticky items...
