Having trouble closing my boot lid
hey guys,
i have a 318is and for some reason my car boot lid wont shut. i dont know why it wont and i have had a good look at it.. and it looks like the hook part doesnt latch onto the screw when you close it.. u usally hear a click.. but it just pops back up when i close it. anyone know the best way to fix it without goin to get it fixed at the mechanics |

Check that the rubber seal hasn't come dislodged preventing it from closing fully. Then I would start looking at the latch and make sure it moves freely.

thanks for replying.. i have checked the seal and its fine.. the latch does not move freely.. its more of a clicking sound when i push it in... and i have to use alot of force to push it in

The first thing I would do is try to lube it. I'm not sure the best product for this but don't use WD-40. Maybe try regular silicone spray or try regular grease.

WD-40 isn't so bad - it's actually a cleaner more than a lubricant, so it can dissolve and clean out any gunk or debris in there. Then you can hit it with a better lubricant.
I use WD-40 all the time, and although it does tend to dry out, it's excellent for lubricating and cleaning out and general troubleshooting sticky items... -Wayne
