Spongy Brakes

Hi, I'm new to this boards, and have bought the 101 projects for your BMW.

Its a very impressive book.

I recently went to the workshop to replace my brake pads and brake rotors, as well as bleeded the brakes.

However the brake pedal still feels extremely spongy, and it takes quite some time for the brakes to respond before stopping.

Can anyone tell me what might be the cause of this?

I would re-bleed the brakes taking care never to let the reservoir get low on fluid. Put at about 300ml through each rear and 200ml through each front caliper.

What method did you use to bleed them? Do you have a pressure bleeder or vacuum bleeder or did you use the partner method?

They used the partner method. I dont think they know how to do the pressure bleeding method. Either that or they are just plain lazy.

Well since u say re bleeding the brakes would work, do i have to buy a new bottle of brake fluid or can i re use the one i just put in?

The one i put in was a BRAND NEW bottle of brake fluid when they did the brake bleeding.

Please advice.
Thank yOU!

If the bottle you have still has some "new" fluid in it then you can use it but you should get another bottle too because you need about 1 liter to make sure you completely bleed the entire system.

The other two methods require special tools which all shops should have. There is nothing wrong with using the partner method. Read this:
