Have I been had?
I took my car for an inspection for $85. When the technician drove it he reported it ok except needing to replace the belts (both) and suspension bushings. Why all of a sudden driving it back to his shop though does the radiator decide to break? Or did he decide to break it?
A plastic part on the top end broke, he said, and the whole radiator had to be replaced. Does this sound right? Couldn't just the part of it be replaced? He charged me $233 for the radiator and the rest in labor totaling $532.14. Can I do the suspension bushings myself or must I give my car to some greedy monster again? |

Radiators fail around 85 -100K miles common problem, top neck typically breaks off.
Bushings are difficult if you're not familiar with suspension work. Requires tools to press bushings out etc. Take a look at Pelican's excellent write up to see if you're interested in tackling it: http://www.pelicanparts.com/bmw/techarticles/101-Projects-59-Front-Overhaul/101-Projects-59-Front-Overhaul.htm |

Ditto what CHoffa said...
Also, if he snooped around under the hood to check the belts he probably stressed the neck and facilitated its demise. I wouldn't blame him though its best it broke at the shop rather than on the way to work or Vegas. Look on the bright side, it broke at THE best possible time. ![]()
