pinging
My '93 325i automatic has a problem with pinging under a light load. For example, going up a slight grade at about 30-40 mph.
The car has had a tune up, the fuel injectors cleaned, and the fuel pump replaced (which improved the problem but did not eliminate it.) Is there anything else to check which might cause this? I thought these cars had detonation sensors which prevented this problem. The only other thing I can think of would be that the car has a vacuum leak somwhere - but it does not look obvious by looking at the vacuum gauge aka MPG gauge.) Any tips on what else to look for? Rubato,
Are you using 93 octane gasoline? If not, then try a tank-full. |

pinging
I've been using 89 Octane Shell Plus grade.
I thought that was within the octane requirement sticker on the car. Is that not correct? |

I thought that it required at least a 91 octane rated gas. I would just try a tank-full, what can it hurt?
