M50 Timing Chain/Tensioner Help!
I need some help and advice. My son has a 92 325is automatic. To make a long story less long, we recently replaced the headgasket due to an over heating situation. We buttoned up the engine and it ran like a champ. But had a little oil leak from the head/front cover interface. I removed the cam cover, cam gears, and chain. I then re-torqued the 3 head to timing cover bolts. I reassembled everything, and now the car makes a horrible banging noise. I removed the cam cover and spun the engine with the starter to try and localize the sound. I isolated it to the Chain guide that is actuated by the main tensioner. I can actually watch the chain guide bounce off the chain and slam back into it. This takes miliseconds, but I can't figure it out. I have rechecked everything about the tensioner, and it is installed correctly. What would cause this? I have triple checked the cam timing and it is still within spec. I am going out of my mind. Oh, by the way, it has 115000 miles on it, and I'm in Raleigh NC. Thanks![
