Water Housung gasket update??

I have a question on a 92' 325i cab 2.5L :

This is the 2nd time in as many years that the "gasket for the water housing cover on the throttle body" needs to be replaced!!

Of course it is one of those cheap cork gaskets that drips steady from the bottom at adle and underway with higher system pressure it sprays the entire engine w/ coolant.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what gasket to use, hopefully not the cork one # 13-54-1-285-471-m9. AND, what , if any, gasket cement/sealer to use?

Thanks and I hope someone has a solution as this is a BIG DRAG when the 1st drive of the year starts out with an ever growing puddle of coolant under the car before you leave the garage.

Thanks!

Bob

Could you please spell out the steps of what you are suggesting and the specific materials? Is that the copper gasket spray?

Are you suggesting this OR have you used this procedure?

Thank you!! Bob

I'd use a gasket and RTV.

Are you saying to use this procedure on my specific area? The area I have a problem with is the throttle body where the 2 lines flow coolant through it. Type in the pelican-bmw p/n 13.54.1.285.471.m9 for the gasket and the hopusing is p/n 13.54.1.711.042.m200

Thanks everyone for your tips!

Bob

I would use a gasket and RTV for any water pump housing.

I THINK I've heard E30'ers using RTV without a gasket but I don't remember for sure. Gaskets are cheap I'd get the gasket and sandwich it between two thin layers of RTV and you'll be good to go.

I know where you are talking about, however, I bypassed the throttle body heating feature. It was added to prevent frost from building up inside for extreme cold temperatures, when the engine itself was also still cold. It doesn't do anything but add heat to the air on it's way to the cylinders, it costs you throttle response.

Hi Dustin, Thank you for your response. That was what I was thinking...unless in frigid temps, why would you want to warm intake air temp when all the hat rodders want to cool the intake air as much as possible.

What did you do? Put a coupling pipe between the 2 hoses and leave the fitting on the throttle body "open" i.e. no hoses or closed off devices??
Thnaks!
Bob
