1995 m3 5 speed clutch removal

i have a 1995 m3 and the clutch was slipping bad so i am in the proces of removing it and the transmission is ready to drop out but i dont know how to remove the starter. i can get the transmission to slide back about 3 inches and it stops. any help would be good.

bell housing has a dow going to the starter keep prying

If the tranny slides back then the starter is disconnected. Like grafhky52 said there are alignment dowels.

But I think you exaggerated on the 3", if its back 3" then you should be off the dowels and only the tranny input shaft should be touching. Make sure it's as level as possible and keep prying gently.
