manual Transmission swap
hey guys -- well got a question about the possibility of a transmission swap -- i have a 1997 M3 with a 5 speed transmission, is it possible to swap a e46 6 speed transmission in for that? my father did that with his 71 mustang back in the day but theres a big difference between fords and BMW's and the time period -- like to hear some opinions
thanks for the help |

I think that is somewhat common as far as tranny swaps go. The euro E36 6-speeds are tough to get but the E46 6-speed fits. I think you need custom clutch equipment and UUCMotorwerks sells it. Call them and ask about the swap.
I dont know what the gear differences are. On the euro E36 6 the first 5 are the same so you only gain an overddrive so the swap isnt much use unless you need highway MPG or you change diff ratios. But maybe the E46 6spd is shorter gearing.
