Annoying rattle found... the hard way
This is just a heads up for anyone who runs a search for the topic...
Out of nowhere my '90 325i developed an annoying rattle that sounded like it came from the rear of the car. I searched high and low: brake pads, exhaust, top shock mounts, spring mounts, drop links... you name it, I shook, nudged, thwacked, everything under the car trying to find it, and... nothing. Well today after dropping my daughter off at daycare, I found what it was. How? Well, it finally let go and started dragging about a block from home. It would appear that there is rear flywheel cover plate that became unbolted on one side, and is now dragging on the ground. Of course I took my spare floor jack to my shop on the other side of town for the 944 Porsche gathering I hosted a couple of weeks ago, so it's going to be an interesting day trying to fix it. I will post an update when I get a chance. -Nick
