Location of expansion valve E30

Need some help - where is the A/C expansion located and how do you get to it? 1986 325ES. I just got a quote of $1,400 to fix my A/C and I think I can do this myself, unless guided otherwise.
Your help is appreciated.
Thanks, Goosh

I'm not sure what the expansion valve is but I know that most of the A/C stuff is behind the passenger headlight. I think there is also a valve for filling the system on the lines that run along the pass side of the engine compartment. Hope this helps

You should find the expansion valve mounted directly to the evaporator coil behind the radio. The best way to access it, is to remove the glovebox, then the side cover to the right of the center console, and to the left of where the glovebox "was". The expansion valve will be the milled metal block where both the refrigerant lines meet the coil.
