Question 95 318i sluggish & chk engine light coming on

I'm kinda new to the BMW world and im hoping someone can give me some pointers. I have a 95 318i and she was running like a top.
She started getting sluggish and the check engine light is coming on if you step on the gas (like going up hills, passing, etc..). Starting was a problem too. Fuel economy seem to have gone downhill as well. I replaced plugs, wires, and coil and the starting issue seems to be fixed, but still having hesitation problems and the chk engine light still comes on. I run 93 in the car & synthetic oil if that helps.

I have a new fuel filter but the weather has not been in my favor.

Could it be an O2 sensor?

Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

I cant say if its throwing a code or not- the light only stays on momentarily then goes back out. It does seem to be a bit more sluggish when the light comes on, but even when its off, it still not up to par.

Are you sure the light that is flashing on briefly is the check engine light?

Yes. It doesnt flash, it comes on solid and if I let off the gas, it goes out. It will stay off until i step on the gas again to either down-shift or to a higher rpm.

I did a little bit or searching and found references to O2 sensors, MAF and ICV. Nothing definitive.
