Will 16 inch rims fit E-36 M3

The title is my question. What are the smallest aka cheapest rims which will fit my E-36 M3. What I am looking for are possibly 16 inch rims and tires which can be worked hard and replaced cheaply. Thanks, Kurt.

The problem is finding a 16" rim that will fit over the brake calipers. I'm not sure if any do.

Are 16" really that much cheaper? What do you mean worked hard? A 17" rim gives lots of options on rim widths and tire brands.

I am looking to probe the cars handling prowess, but replacing the 17 inch tires seems would be more expensive. Also was thinking the smaller tires would allow more over-steer and break away with less wear and tear on car. I knew it would be difficult fit 16's over the larger brakes. While I have you what performance tires do you prefer on your M3. I still have the OEMs and they are expensive. The fronts are new and the rears are getting down there. I don't really like the idea of different brands but price might warrant it. Thank you, Kurt.

Your first two sentences basically say you want to reduce the grip so it is easier to break traction and slide it around more. I would do this with tire pressure. If you plan to just rip up the tires then go buy some cheap-o all seasons, they will slide the easiest. Go get some used 17x7 rims and put 205/40's ($55) on them.

My street tires are Yoko ES100's ($110) which are currently being discontinued. They are cheap and pretty good. They are summer tires and relatively soft but I dont want tires to last more than 2 years anyway. They supposedly get noisy when low but I haven't noticed. Yoko is replacing the ES100's with the S-drive which are about $10 more per tire but should be superior to the ES100 in every way.

Thank you for the advice. I think I will try to find another set of Mich.. Sports for the rear since the fronts are new. I believe these may be discontinued also. I have seen Sport A/S but not the summer ones advertised. Thanks again. Kurt.
