abs light

My ABS light has come on today. First it came on as I drove to work this morning. I stopped the car shut it off then restarted it and drove to work. The light stayed off. Then as I drove home the ABS light came back on, so I pulled over and turned off the car . I checked the brake fluid and it was OK. I then restarted the car and drove it home and the ABS light stayed off.

What could this be?

It snot brake fluid or pads. It is the ABS sensors, pump or control module.

Does the light come on while braking?

Start with checking and cleaning the ABS speed sensor at each wheel.

Jeron, The light comes on when I am driving. If I stop and shut off the motor the light will go out. It does't always come on it is a intermitent problem. How do I clean the sensor ?

Thank You

The sensor is in the back of the wheel hub. Remove the retaining screw then it just pulls out.

It should be covered in brake dust and dirt and the hole may have dirt in it. I would spray air into the hole and clean the sensor with brake cleaner. Even though it doesn't have asbestos anymore its still best not the breathe the dust.

If that doesn't fix it then you'll have to have the codes pulled at a dealer or well equipped mechanic.
