Need Installing Head Help

My friend and I are trying to install the cylinder head back into my 87 BMW 325is. He installed the head onto the engine block, after installation he was ABLE to turn the pulley and it turned OK. I put the intake and exhaust manifolds. He then put the timing belt on and I installed the water pump. When he tried to adjust the valves, he was NOT ABLE to turn the pulley. The gear wheel on the cylinder hear turns but the wheel on the bottom that attached to the fan clutch would not move, no matter how hard we tried. My friend think I dropped something inside while I installing the intake manifold. We are going to take it apart to see if that's the case but before we do that, I wanted to check if anybody any answers or advices for me because I don't think I dropped anything in and taking it apart is lots of working. Any help will be much appreciated. THANK YOU in advance and I will keep you undated on our progress. PLEASE HELP.

Did you set the timing on both the head and block to TDC before installing the head??

Is, the timing was set to TDC before installing the head.

Are the camshaft and crankshaft marks still aligned? Even if they were to begin with, you need to turn the crankshaft two complete revolutions and make sure the the marks are still on; if not than you do not have your timing correct.

Thanks for all your replies. We took the head off to find out the problem and the problem was we got the wrong head. The pistons was hitting against the head, that's the reason why we can't turn it. It was just a slight angle but it was enough block the pistons. Anybody know if that can be fixed by a machine shop? Now I have a clean, pressure tested head sitting there useless for me. It was a very expensive lesson to learn.
