Try pushing the airbox down while trying to undo the metal clips. Sometimes mine likes to get stuck :/

I agree, what car?

My e36 filter box just has 2 plastic tabs and it is very tight. I use a screwdriver to get leverage to pry it up.

I just put a new OEM (Mahle) filter in my car. I don't feel or see any difference, I just know it's a cleaner filter now. So I was curious to know exactly what difference you noticed, since it sounds like a SIGNIFICANT difference....thanks.
