i have a e36 1994 325is and i am experience a knocking noise from the altenator area. the mechanic says that i need to change the altenator because the bearing are bad. i tested the altenator and it is charging and i found a parts site that offer replacement bearings. is it possible to change the bearing myself and where are they located?

Never done it but I've heard of people reconditioning their own alternators.
