What is it?
When working behind the glove box on my '95 318ti, I found a 3" square by 1" tall black plastic box with a bundle of multi-colored wires coming out of it. There is also a light gauge black wire that appears to be an antenna. I called Lo-jack (I'm the second owner) and they did not recognize the VIN. The box says made in the USA and it plugs cleanly into a factory 10 wire (+/-) socket in the midst of lots of wiring behind the firewall. It's that connection that puzzles me. This does not appear to be an after market hack job. Did the BMW dealers install other anti theft products? The local dealer was no help, nor did they want to help. The car is the sport model with remote door locks, but it is definitely not a factory installation-the box is held in place with pony tail bands! Any guesses what it might be?

Listen to the box and try the remote locks. The factory alarm/remote entry harness is in that area. I could have been installed by an owner.
