94 325 tapping noise
I have a 94 325 I with 100k miles and I just started to hear a tapping sounds that changes with the RPM. the noise is not loud when the engine is cold. its coming from the VANOS unit area and it just start getting louder. I'm thinking its the chain Tensioner. Would the upper chain that goes from the intake cam to the exhaust cam make that noise? And if so can you change the upper tensioner with out removing any of the chains. Plus should I change the lower chain Tensioner 1st?

The lower tensioner is very easy to replace.
I would get a mechanics stethoscope and try to isolate the noise. You should read DrVanos.com
