Brake Pedal Switch
I have a 98 M3 and I am in the process of installing a new brake pedal switch (keep on getting brake light circuit error). I had to break the old switch to remove it and cannot get the new switch back into the bracket. Is there is a trick to installing the new switch back into this bracket? It does not seem to go back in very easily. The instructions in your Pelican Tech Article says simply install the new switch into place.

It should just snap into the square hole, but it will not go in upside down.
It has a small tab on one side that has to fit into the bracket and two little snaps that hold it. I found that I seem to be able to get more clearance from the brake pedal with the car running, but only push it down once and hold it, If you let it back up, it will pump back up to the top. The new one does look exactly like the old one doesn't it?

If you had the same experience I did, breaking the old switch out twisted the bracket up like a pretzel. After I straightened the bracket back out, I was able to snap in the new switch.

Yeah, you were right, I did bend that bracket when removing the old switch. I still have not been able to get it straight enough for the new one to fit into correctly though. (Lots of cussing, very tight fit under the dash). I bought this switch from Pelican Parts. I spoke with my local import mechanic (not dealer) and he said he has had trouble with the switch if it is not a genuine BMW part. Has anybody else had a problem with this? Also any solutions for straightening this bracket easily?

Do you have the bracket out of the car? Take it out so you can get good pressure to reinstall the switch.

I didn't bend my bracket, I crushed the old switch to crumbs with a pair of pliers.
Fell out after that. My problem was the car was designed for you feet to be on the floorboard, not your head. The other way around will make you cuss your mother. I'm too big, I had to remove the seat, and lay down on the floor with my feet in the back seat to even see under the dash. 10-4 Jaron, on removing the bracket, I didn't and I should have.
