Don't like the sound of that because both my daughters drive '97 328s - even have the same wheels. Heater control valve runs $160 on line. Ouch.

The heater control valve replacement is an under-hood job. No need to attack the dash. Small hands and small tools will come in handy.

That car would have been due for heater hose replacement recently. PITA job. Any chance that the tubes were abused during that job, leading to failure?

It looks like the pipes #11 unscrew from the flange #22, at the firewall. Hopefully.

I've never removed one or even looked at how I would remove it. Like I said, "hopefully" it can be removed at the firewall.

Success---the plastic triple heater tube was replaced by removing the defroster grill and lower access plate, at the firewall .The triple plastic heater tube assembly has one 10 mm nut holding it in place. Once I was able to get at it ,replacing the part was easy. The part never should be made from plastic ,I thought BMW's were better made. Thanks for your help ,ALAN

When you say defroster grill do you mean outside the cabin below the window where the wipers are or inside the cabin?
