M Logo Tranny re build

THanks earlier for the info about the transmissions and the swap ideas for the 6 speed on the 1997 M3

unfortunatly im a poor college kid so im just gonna have to rebuild my tranny

now the things im hearing is a rattling when the the car is idoling with the clutch pedal up, when the clutch is to the floor the rattling stops

what could this be? main bearing? if i could get a good guess at what it is before i rip it apart that would be helpful

Does the car have an aftermarket lightweight flywheel?

I dont think it has a lightweight flywheel

The previous owner didnt mention that but it is possible that he installed one
because the clutch is a ceramic stage one street clutch so i know he at least had it apart at one point or another

could it be the throwout bearing? it has 80K on it

If he put in and aftermarket clutch surely he put in a lightweight fly.

Read this:
http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/flywheel/gear_rattle.htm

It explains the cause although I disagree that it can be so easily "fixed".
