Front wishbone rear bush replacement
Hi guys,
I need to replace the rear bushes on the front wishbone for a UK MOT on my 3.28 E36. I have looked at the project details and can see how to press the new bushes into the bracket, not a problem, I have a press that will do that. Is it possible to remove the rear bush from the wishbone without removing the wishbone from the vehicle? I can see the bolts would be removed easily enough, but does the bush fit snugly to the wishbone, or will it slide off with the bolts removed from the bracket? I can buy a new wishbone with the rear bush already fitted (expensive), but also see that plenty of people are selling bushes on there own, and wishbones without the bushes fitted! What do people think? Kind regards Phil |

You have to press it off and press it on. I think that the 101 Projects book shows how to make a simple puller/press that will do the job.
The HARD part is getting the angle correct. This is why it is important to do the job on the car, and do it quickly. If you install a stock bushing, you are supposed to put solvent on it that actually glues the center of the bushing to the control arm. Therefore, it is critical that you get the bushing on quickly and let the car down to its normal ride height before the solvent dries. If you are putting on M3 bushings, I don't think you are supposed to glue them, but I am not certain about that. If you replace stock 328 bushings with M3 bushings, be sure to get M3 bushings for a model year that uses a centered hole so it does not screw up your alignment. |

The CAB (control arm bushing) will slide off the arm without removing the arm from the vehicle. Clean and lube the tip of the arm before trying to slide it off. You may need a puller but I was able to hammer mine off with a block of wood as a drift, IIRC.

+1. I happened to have a puller from Autozone and they just pulled off. Installation was a snap - just have everything ready to go, lube up everything with dish soap and the bushings should go on with minimal effort. Car should be sitting on it's wheels in about 10 minutes from when you start putting the bushings back on.
