Keyless Entry/Alarm Question

I have Keyless entry on my 98 328is, which has an alarm as well.

Say I leave the car, and lock the doors and arm the alarm with the remote. Then I come back to my car and the batteries are dead in the remote or I cannot unlock or disarm the car with the remote. IF I unlock the door with the key, and open the door, the alarm will sound. How do you shut it off, is there an override or something?

In my Japanese cars in this scenario, I simply put the key in the ignition and turn it. It is not necessary to start the car, but you can. The alarm goes away.
Have you tried this approach?
