I have an 85 318 it has just started to die sometimes it will die like it runs out of gas. If you let it sit for awhile it will run again. Is this a sensor or fuel delivery problem. Please help.

This could be tough to find. It sounds like something has a crack in it that causes it to loose electrical connection when it gets warm.
When it fails and you turn the key off and back on to the run position , can you hear the fuel pump spin up to pressurize the rail? If the fuel pump is not running, it could be something as simple as a cracked solder joint in the fuel pump relay. It could also be a lot of other stuff that is neither cheap nor easy to diagnose....... First step will be to find out whether you lack spark or fuel when it stalls out. Carry an old spark plug. When it fails, put one of your plug wires on the old plug and ground the threaded part to the block while someone cranks the starter. You should see a strong blue spark. |

We had a similar issue & it was the fuel pressure valve, needed to replace the 2 small O rings inside it. Some are sealed units & others aren't. Good luck

Had the same symptoms on my 94 325, turned out to be the fuel pump. It was running intermittently, would run ok, then act like it ran out of gas, which it did when the pump stopped pumping. Let it set for a while, it would start up like nothing happened and then later just quit again.
