Time to replace the clutch?

Hello All,

Just bought a 96 318i and the projects book to go with it, love both!

This is my first BMW and I was wondering where the clutch is supposed to catch, mine catches/releases towards the top of the pedal travel and I wanted to know if this is normal?

Just want to know if my clutch is on the way out..thanks!

Towards the top is OK. At the top with no pedal freeplay is a problem. If you have no freeplay at the top, the fork is holding the throwout bearing tight against the pressure plate and you are spinning your throwout bearing all the time. It will fail.

My 328 and 325 normally engage a bit above the midpoint in pedal travel.
