My ride is a 1986 BMW 325es. It's in pretty good shape and everything works fine except for the following items. I've bought Bentley's E30 manual but it's of no help. I've tried several other BMW/E30 forums but they were unresponsive
A/C - My A/C person (Certified and Licensed but does not know BMW) recently recharged my A/C and was concerned at the resulting pressures. Alter shutting the AC off the pressures were 30psi on the low side and 300 psi on the high side (Were not equalizing as they should). He has concluded that I need a new expansion valve. Any ideas? If I do need one can I beat the $62 plus tax from my local BMW dealer? Wipers - The wipers activate anytime something electrical is operated in the car, e.g. brakes, turn signals, windows etc. So I went through Bentleys book and t/shot the wiper system and the grounds. They all check out. I've replaced the wiper module and no change. It still seems like a ground issue but I don't know where to look next. BTW I was reluctant to pull the steering wheel to check the ground there since the horn, using the same ground (according to the Bentley book) works fine. Any ideas? Thanks |

Sorry for the slow response - been working on the 911 Engine book!
While I'm not an AC expert, I would guess that the system would indeed want to pressurize when on. The difference leads to the conclusion that there is a clog or restriction somewhere in the system. Your mechanic is not going to like it if you show up with your own parts, especialy on an A/C system, where mistakes can make the freon leak out... Is the wiper plugged in backwards? Sounds like current is travelling up thru the ground into the wiper motor. Forwards or backwards, you probably won't be able to tell, since they move back and forth. It may be that the assembly is wired backwards. This would also have trouble showing up on a continuity test... Hope this helps, Wayne
