The intake air temperature sensor is mounted in the intake manifold behind the the throttle position switch. According to a picture in the Bentley manual, it is on the opposite the throttle linkage.

yes...turn on the ignition and pump the gas pedal 5 times, wait a few seconds, and it blinks 1-2-2-4 which is the intake air temperature sensor, however, i can't locate it. i should just order one anyway, but i want to isolate it first and make sure it's bad. i had the code for the mass air flow sensor, which actually blew out of its housing, so i just stuck in back in and now works perfectly. so, if anyone has a link to a pic which would help me isolate it, that would just be perfect!!!

thx for the responses...

OK I'm having a brain fade here. Do 325's have the the M50 engine? On the M50, look where the throttle body meets the intake manifold. You should see the throttle position sensor mounted to the throttle body. To the right of that, on the intake manifold is the intake air temp sensor. It appears to be buried behind what looks like a vacuum line connected to a L then running in to the intake.
Probally just confused you more. Buy a Bentley Service Manual (you dealer should have these) Cost $ 60.00 but BMW gets $ 80.00 an hour. Pay for itself in no time.

picked up the intake air temp sensor from the dealer yesterday - $53 and some change. my 92 325i 5sp has been running extremely rough lately, and the engine code indicated a faulty sensor. engine rpms were at 500 and although the car will drive fine (for a car, not a bimmer), when i pull up to a stop sign/light, the car would die. will attempt to replace it today. the guys at the counter (******** of clayton in st. louis) were fairly helpful and showed me the exact location. it's actually inside the mass air flow meter at the point of contact to the intake manifold. hopefully that will fix the problem in time for the bmw meet we have planned here in st. louis on saturday. i'm looking forward to meeting fellow bimmerheads. i'll post the results of the fix tomorrow. THX!!!
