Cosmo Racing Short Shifter The BEST $40 you will ever Spend!

I have a 1982 BMW 320I (E21) that had Horrible Shifting! I had read the articles Wayne had posted about going through the assemblies and making them shift better. I also saw sport shifter kits for several hundred dollars and then saw the Cosmo Short shifter kit for $39.95. How good could it be and how well would it work? I am here to tell you that I have NEVER enjoyed shifting that car until last weekend!

The install was a easy as they claimed and from the time I jacked the car up, placed the stands, cleaned the area, removed the "E" clip and bolted the extension on and dropped the car it was "Less than 1 Hour Total"

Before the lever hit the console for reverse and was all over the place. Now it shifts a lot like the Mini Cooper "S" we have and I never knew there was a spring gate for the 1st & Second Plane For the first time ever, I KNOW where all of the gears are and even my wife laughs when she sees me shifting because now it looks funny to see the lever moving so little.

Side note, even the Decal they send is 1st rate!

You can do the same thing by installing a shift lever from a Z3 too.

I've got several of these....

Hey there...Nice Plug.

I've installed these on several e30's I still own (a 1985 & a 1990).

The Installed item ended up hitting the drive-shaft on each "Easy" install.

It's certianly not rocket-science to install one.

Thought I was doing something wrong on the first install but then it also happened on the 2nd. one.

Apparently, this little gizmo also fits an e46. I'm doing an Auto to 5 Speed Manual Swap on my e46 presently.

I'll certainly be trying it on the e46....hopefully it'll work out.

I wonder what I was doing wrong on the previous installs???

It's not like it can be installed incorrectly....

You DO take the Shifter Knob off , Chew a pack of Juicy-Fruit whilst simultaneously smoking a pack of Marlboroughs & sipping on a Double-Gulp Size Vodka Sour before, During, & While screwing the Gizmo on, right???.

IDK...

It is "Directly" over the cented of the drive shaft but I had over an inch 1/2 inch of clearance. Are you sure that your "Mounting plate" is not bent or the Rubber SPacer Block is not missing?

I had not driven the car for a short period and when cold the transmission shifts harder. SO when I went to 2nd gear I was sure I was not fully in gear and to test let out the clutch and found that indeed I was in gear! 10 years of sloppy shifting do not leave your mind right away!

It does look like a pretty neat piece, simple design and should work well, but I just feel that a $20 shipping charge on a quite small, $40 part is a bit of a rip. Does Pelican offer anything similar? Jared, where does one get a shift lever from a Z3?
