91 318i manual, no 2nd 3rd or 4th

Got this car with no 2nd or 3rd. Suddenly no 4th. No odd noises or anything.
Could this be caused by the shifter bushings.

Thanks for any advice.
John

Have you checked the linkage from the stick to the top of the tranny. Never had an e30 shifter apart, however I have been into my e36 6 cylinder 5 speed, and if yours is similar it could be a bolt, bracket or pin out of position.

Thanks,
John

My brother helped me check out the shifter and it's working. It must be something
inside the transmission
Any advice?

Check the gearshift components against this diagram. It sounds like one of the selector rods isnt connected.

If everything here is connected, then it is something internal in the gearbox.

Nice diagram, looks very similar to mine.
VERY tight, hard to access, diagnose or even see from under the car without dissasembling anything.
