Hi, I have a 98 328i and fan either works at all speeds or it doesn't work at all. It may work for a minute then stop completely for 10 minutes, then start again at random. This applies to air conditioning, heating or just the fan.
What is the most likely problem? Final stage resistor? Blower resistor pack? Or CPU unit? Thanks a lot! __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: BMW Blower Resistor Replacement |

From your description it sounds like the final stage is faulty. However, it would be a good idea to test for power and ground at the blower motor to confirm when the symptom is present.
When symptom is present, check two wires to blower motor from final stage for power and ground. You can disconnect connector at blower, then connect a test light in series with circuit. If power and ground are present, the final stage is working normally. If not, the final stage is not sending the correct signal. Keep in mind the problem could be a fuse or bad ground. be sure to check these items also. - Nick |
