Have 1987 325ic was driving today & car just shut down will not start, needs codes, had problems last summer was able to restart, fuel pump? Sensor? Could be alot of things

You're right, it could be a lot of things. Start by checking the DME for fault codes. Once done, you will have to see what is missing, preventing the engine from starting. Check fuel injector pulse, spark and fuel pressure.
