I have a 1989 BMW 325IS- Does the CPS read each tooth on the wheel or is there a certain piece on the wheel that the CPS reads? If so what does it look like?

The crankshaft position sensor reads the entire toothed wheel. When the toothed wheel passes by the sensor an A/C voltageis created.
