I an 1994 E36 manual heat/cool controls that has a blower that works intermittently fuse is ok; when the electrical is turned on whether started ot not. The blower never comes on while the car is running, only when the started or electrical is turned on. Sometimes it goes 2 - 4 days without working. I replaced the blower resistor this week but it did not resolve the problem. What is the least extensive troubleshooting task that I can try next ...control unit?

It could be the control panel. The only way to know for sure is to test the signal from the control panel to the blower resistor. If the signal in present and the blower is not turning on, check the output to the blower motor.
