I have a 98 BMW M3 e36, S52. I have a problem with my car reving at random times. I have my foot on the brake when it happens, and if I let go of the break the car will accelerate at a higher speed. The only thing I can do is put the car on neutral. The last time it happened was when I put the car on reverse. Have you heard of this problem before? And how did they fix it? Please advise. Thamk you.

You may have a major vacuum leak. I would not drive the vehicle until you fix this problem. Check the DME for fault codes using a BMW scal tool. Monitoring fuel trim at idle will indicate if a vacuum leak is present.
