Hello Wayne,
This article has been very helpful. My 1994 325i convertible cowling drain got plugged and then wouldn't run when wet...you know the rest of the story. Used DMEs are cheap enough that I'm just going to buy one but my question is about the chip. I would like to switch to a performance chip mostly because of the gas mileage. Do I need to run the swapped DME with my stock chip before I switch or can I go straight to a Performance chip? Thank you. __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: Pelican Technical Article: BMW DME Motronic ECU Swap / Repair |

I would get the stock DME working, then install the chip. This way if something is wrong, the puzzle has less pieces.
