My 1999 528i just had the fuel filter replaced a few weeks ago. Yesterday the car died and needs a new fuel pump. Is this something that the mechanic could have predicted or prevented or even caused?

This is likely a coincidence.
There are tests to run to check the condition of a fuel pump. Always easier in hindsight. Without being asked, he may not considering offering the extra services due to increased cost to you. - Nick |
