I have 96 318i. It died on the road. I change the fuel pump. It worked, so I washed the car, including clearing debris from hood gutters. Next morning, no fire. No power to pump. After much research/consulting I changed crank angle sensor. No fire. I hired a mechanic. He guessed bad ignition. Replaced it. No fire. He found water in ECU. Replaced it. Still no fire. He says grounding somewhere bad, probably needs new harness! He's done working on it -his decision. Won't bill me because he can't diagnose the issue. Says some voltage getting to relays, but not enough and grounds are flakey. Now what do I do?

If the grounds are no good, locate the grounding points and repair them.
I would dobuel check all power and grounds to the DME, test them under a load and measure the voltage drop. - Nick |
