RSM Reinforcement
The strut towers on my '97 E36 328i convertible are recessed with a lip around the hole for the rear shock mounts (RSM). Because of this the reinforcing plates that I purchased from Pelican Parts do not sit flush on the top of the strut tower. That is to say, they don't fit. The towers seam in pretty good condition. What should I do?

See Project #61 rear shocks and springs replacement in the tech section of this site. Open the bonus photos. Go down 26 rows, and right 3 pictures and you will see what the reinforcement plate is supposed to look like on the shock tower. See which looks wrong vs. your car. It may be that your towers have previously been welded/repaired and are no longer "anatomically correct", or the part you were sent is simply wrong or defective. The reinforcement plates fit quite easily and sit correctly when things are normal/right. Hope this helps.
