got a BMW318i. it can't start or cuts when fuel gauge reads 1/4 tank but when refueld to 1/2 tank rans normaly. could the sending unit be the problem?

You could have a faulty sending unit or a siphon issue. Check the actual fuel level when the tank reads 1/4. You can also test the sending units to see if they are reading correctly.
