Ok I have a 95 318is build date 7/95 so it has an ews 2. I bought it as a no. Running project. It was turning over but with no fuel and no spark. I noticed that the dme gets really really hot and that someone had tried to bypass the ews by cutting and splicing the wires. I hooked the wired back the way they're supposed to be and I get nothing when the key is turnedwith the wires spliced it turns over but again no fuel or spark. The ignition is showing a copper wire ring around it and seems a little loose so I tried the key in the doors and trunk and it doesn't work. So the ignition had been replaced hence why they tried to bypass the ews. Also the key is hollow no chip or anything. Do you guys have any suggestions for me that don't involve a dealer? I hate taking my cars anywhere to have work done on them.

I would start by checking the DME for fault codes. If the system is not working properly, a fault code will be set. This will be your best bet when diagnosing. Otherwise you are shooting in the dark, guessing at what could be blocking the start.
