Hi there I recently purchased a 1998 318ti from a used dealership and even though they said they changed the O2 sensor it still shuts off when idle either in park or drive. Do you think perhaps they never changed it? Could it be acid build up around the battery? Because it has that too. Can it be anything more major than that? I know the 318ti 1996 model had transmission problems. Could it be trans. Related? I really need your advice.

This could be a number of things, however the items you suspect gererally do not cause engine stalling. You could have a faulty cam or crank sensor or a vacuum leak. I would start by checking the DME for fault codes. If the system is not working properly, a fault code will be set. This will be your best bet when diagnosing.
